Chapter 2
Lawrence had just signed the document when his phone suddenly rang.
His assistant's voice came through the receiver: “Mr. Rodriguez, Miss Cynthia has sprained her ankle and can't walk because of the pain...”
Lawrence's expression changed slightly: “I'll be right there.”
He put away his phone and looked at Amity: “Cynthia is injured, and I need to go see her. I'll take you out to dinner another time.”
“No need.” Amity clenched the divorce agreement. “I no longer need your company.”
Lawrence furrowed his brow, as if he wanted to say something, but ultimately turned and left.
Amity went straight to the law firm. The lawyer carefully reviewed the agreement and nodded. “The agreement is valid andand takes effect immediately.”
“Thank you.”
After leaving the law firm, Amity went to the school. In the principal's office, she handed over her resignation letter.
“Amity?” The principal looked at her in surprise. “You have such a strong teaching ability, why do you suddenly want to resign?”
“I'm getting divorced,” Amity said calmly. “I want to leave this city.”
The principal sighed. “Alright... After finishing the last few classes of this semester, you can resign.”
“Thank you.”
Amity walked out of the office and took a deep breath.
In the last class, she forced herself to walk into the classroom, but saw Lawrence and Cynthia in the corner.
Lawrence was dressed in a suit, sitting in the back row, with Cynthia leaning on his shoulder. They were whispering and laughing, their fingers intertwined.
Amity's heart clenched.
In the past, Lawrence valued work above all else, even returning to the company after only three days of honeymoon leave. Now he was willing to abandon a billion-dollar contract to accompany Cynthia to a boring elective class.
She took a deep breath and walked to the podium: “Today we will discuss the formation of different buildings in different eras ...”
Throughout the class, she could hear soft laughter from the back row.
Lawrence's deep voice and Cynthia's playful responses felt like knives piercing her heart.
The bell rang, and Amity practically fled the classroom.
In the restroom, she splashed cold water on her face. Just as she was about to leave, she heard Cynthia's voice from the stall.
“Lawrence gave up a billion-dollar contract just to chase after me and came here to accompany me to class!” She said triumphantly into the phone, “You should have seen the way he looked at me just now—like he was going to eat me alive~”
Her best friend asked, “If he likes you so much, why don't you just agree to him?”
“Are you stupid?” Cynthia scoffed. “A man of his status has countless women around him. Only by keeping him on a leash, teasing him with distance and closeness, can I keep him interested in me.”
She lowered her voice, “I don't want to be a doll. I want to be Ms. Rodriguez.”
Amity stood there, her fingertips digging into her palm.
She walked out expressionlessly, passing right by Cynthia.
“Professor White!” Cynthia hurriedly hung up the phone and grabbed her, “What did you hear?”
“I didn't hear anything.” Amity shook off her hand. “Your business has nothing to do with me.”
Cynthia wanted to ask more, but out of the corner of her eye, she suddenly saw Lawrence walking toward them.
Her eyes flashed, and she suddenly grabbed Amity's wrist and slapped herself hard across the face!
“Smack!”
The crisp sound of the slap echoed loudly in the corridor.
“Professor...” Cynthia covered her face, tears welling up, her voice trembling with hurt, “I'll stay away from Mr. Rodriguez from now on. Please don't be angry...”
Lawrence strode over, his expression dark and menacing: “Amity! Didn't you sign the agreement? Why are you still bullying Cynthia?”
“I didn't.”Amity looked at him calmly, “She hit herself.” "
“Mr. Rodriguez...” Cynthia sobbed as she hid in Lawrence's arms, “Maybe... you shouldn't pursue me anymore. Professor White is so angry, I'm scared...”
Lawrence quickly embraced her: “Don't be afraid. She can't control me.”
Cynthia timidly said with reddened eyes, : “ But Professor White is your wife after all. She forced me to leave you and slapped me…”
Her voice choked up, “I’ve never been treated so unfairly…”
Lawrence’s expression darkened. He gently wiped her flushed cheek with his fingertips and soothed her, “Don’t be angry. I’ll make her pay tenfold, okay?”
