#Chapter 33 A Favorite

I’m paying for sugar and eggs at the supermarket when the sky breaks open. The cashier and I gape together at the sudden downpour before he pulls my two items out of the paper bag he had placed them in, trading it for a plastic bag instead. I grumble a thank you as I head toward the exit. All I wanted on my day off was to have a baking marathon. I made a batch of my famous peanut butter cookies this morning when I ran out of sugar and eggs. I thought a relaxing walk to and from the supermarket would be an excellent addition to my day of rest. Apparently, that was too much to ask. With no umbrella and no rain jacket, I remind myself that I’m only a few hundred meters from home. It’s not that far. Stepping out into the rain, it takes less than a block before I’m soaked through to my underwear. I clutch the tied plastic bag; at least my groceries will stay dry.
