Aaron’s POV I stand in Mae’s kitchen while she holds our daughter, and hope blooms in my chest at the promise that was just made. If Mae is going to be spending time with Ruby every two weeks, that will give me an opportunity to see her more frequently, too. My wolf pants excitedly within me. But then Ruby is crying again, scared to wait two weeks before she sees her Mommy again. I hadn’t realized how much the distance from her mother was affecting her, and I can tell by the agony on Mae’s face that she hadn’t either. “But what if… you forget?” Ruby forces out through her stilted sobs. “And I don’t… see you… for another… three months?” With some quick mental math, part of me wants to correct that though Mae hasn’t lived with us for three months, Ruby has seen her a few times since then.
