Mae’s POV
The authorities work efficiently once they see who is at the scene: their president being defended by his ex-wife and previous running opponent. As far as the public knows, Henry and I have no reason to back up Aaron unless shit is serious.
The whole process takes so little time that we probably could have slipped away before the press showed up, but making this whole situation public has become part of our plan. So we dawdle until the press vans pull up. Then we tell them the story we want everyone to know.
Henry heads home after he plays his part with the press, confirming everything we said, including the fact that I was not going back to a dutiful house wife now that I was mated again but would continue running for president.
No one asks Aaron if he is considering dropping out of the race.
Aaron and I go straight to pick up Ruby after that. Her friend’s parents let us know they made sure the girls hadn’t heard the news. We thank them, then take Ruby back to A
