Chapter 257 The Building Is Collapsing
At noon, the mid-September sun hung in the sky like a fireball, heating the air to an oppressive degree. Asphalt roads shone under the sunlight, the outlines of buildings in the distance were distorted by heat waves, and even the wind felt scorching hot.
There was no shade to be found within the Garvista One construction site. When steel bars and cement were exposed to the scorching sun, their surface temperature became hot enough to fry eggs on.
Twenty or so shirtless workers toiled away on-site, beads of sweat rolling down their tanned backs. Sweat accumulated above the safety belts tied to their waists before quickly evaporating, leaving white stains behind.
Joel Zimmer, one of the construction workers, set his steel wrench down with a clatter and bent over to rub at his aching knees. He was 56 years old this year and had been working on construction sites for almost 30 years, but this was the hottest day he'd experienced to date.
