Chapter 29 Dr. N's Cover Is Blown
Natalie adjusted her mask and took in a steadying breath before pushing the door open. There was no side exit from the operating theater, so she had no choice but to face the main doors head-on.
Horatio was waiting anxiously right outside the door, and the instant he saw the doctor emerge, he rushed forward.
"Mr. Hurrell." Natalie greeted, deliberately deepening her voice.
Horatio closed the distance between them in a few quick strides. His lips trembled before he finally managed to speak. "Star… How is she?"
"The surgery was a success." Natalie gave a professional report, listing the key indicators while carefully avoiding his gaze. "Once she makes it past the critical 48 hours, her prognosis should be very good."
Relief flickered visibly across Horatio's face, but the tension quickly returned. "Why did the surgery take two hours longer than expected? What happened?"
"There was an unexpected vascular anomaly during the procedure," Natalie explained evenly.
