Chapter 2: FASHION DISASTER

{Keyboard typing} Today's entry 10/08/09 DECADE REUNION ANNIVERSARY IN THREE DAYS GOAL: SNEAK IN….FIND DAD! The typist seemed very intent on what she was writing away on her pink laptop when she heard a familiar voice yelled from the room above her. 'I AM DOOMED!" Shaking her head she closed her laptop as she got out of her bed, wearing her flip flops and made her way upstairs. AMBER'S POV I was pretty sure that I had come to the standstill in my life where everything keeps on going down the drain. This was a fucking disaster. I thought as I held my cheer leading uniform in my hand. There is no way this was going to enter me now. 'I AM DOOMED!" I groaned loudly as I threw the blue and golden cheer leading outfit on my bed as it soon got lost in the heap of sprawled clothes that was hiding my bed cover defiantly. I groaned again as I covered my face with my hands and tried to calm myself down. There was always a way out of this mess. A way except jogging or keeping myself fit miraculously before three days were up. 'Mum, what do you think you are doing?" I heard the voice of my 10 year old daughter Madison say as I peeked through my hands and saw her covered in her pink overall and flip flops as she leaned on the door. Yes, I was a mum. I was trying to survive motherhood and frankly I sucked at the job. 'Maddie? What are you doing here? Is everything alright?" I said plastering a fake smile on my face as the worry lines and stress creased the hell out of my face. I didn't want my baby girl to see that I didn't have anything under control. 'Come on, mum. You know I don't fall for that kind of things anymore. I heard your signature yell so I decided to come see what I could do to help?" She said as she walked in fully, making an effort not to step on the clothes strewn on the floor before plopping herself on my bed as I sighed. 'Oh Maddie. I am fat. I simply can't attend this anniversary. Who made the bloody rule that we had to go dressed as what we were in high school. That is the most embarrassing thing ever. My uniform won't fit me." I said dramatically placing my hand on my forehead. Maddie on the other hand scanned my body with her eyes trying to see where the fat was{yes I was a very slim, not chubby woman. I just liked being overly dramatic at times.} 'Mum, everyday you keep on making different excuses so that you would bail out of this anniversary, but this is something you should look forward to. You will get to see people you haven't seen in a long while, interact with your ex boyfriend or crush. Are you hiding from someone?" Maddie said suddenly as I quickly jerked up shaking my head. 'What….. me hiding from anyone? Nah I just…" I tried to pick up an excuse but my daughter saw right through me as usual. 'Uh-huh. Mum, you know it is compulsory to go to the anniversary party. It is just for an afternoon. And besides it is once in a decade, even if you hate them, just put on a big smile on your face and fake it. Fake it till the end okay." Maddie said as I am left wondering once more how I got paired up with some smart geniuses in my house. I smiled as I ruffled her black hair and she smiled back with those deep blue eyes of hers that always seem to draw attention towards her. 'What would I do without you?" I asked as a joke but Maddie still gave me a reply. 'You would be a mess without me, Literally." She said as I had no choice but to laugh as I held my stomach. I would admit that there was some half truth in what she said, but that would remain a secret. 'Yes, I will do as you have said, besides what is the worst that could happen?" I asked placing my arms akimbo on my waist looking like Superman without a cape when my phone started ringing. Maddie quickly went and brought the phone for me as I took it from her mouthing a thank you as I read the caller ID. It was my best friend right from high school, Mel Hughes. She was a grown up woman now, happily married with Ken Carson our high school president and they had two amazing kids together Stacey and Ken Jr. I smiled as I quickly picked up the call. ' Hey Mel" I said as I heard her busty voice through the phone. It was filled with excitement. Probably find out she was expecting a third child or something. 'Hey Amber. You wouldn't believe the news I just heard right now and I simply had to let you know." She said with joy overladen in her voice. Did I forget to mention that she was a big gossip and was always in the know and now, while I was more like a reserved person. I prefer talking to animals more than humans because humans were crazy and unpredictable. 'Wow, tell me. I am dying to know." I said putting on my fake enthusiastic voice as I rolled my eyes. No, do not get me wrong, I love Mel as my blood sister but you got to know even siblings pisses you off sometimes and I felt like hanging her on a wind wheel so she could have a time out. But since wishes were not coming true, I had to listen to whatever news she had now. It was definitely not going to pass the neighbor's gossip. 'Well. I heard from some colleagues that Jay Harley is going to be making an appearance at the anniversary party." She squealed at me but I was already lost and numb from the news I just heard. 'Jay Harley!" I said holding my phone with anger. How I hated that bully.
