Charisse tied up the trash bag and tossed it outside, just in time to catch a glimpse of Elliot's car driving away, the red taillights quickly swallowed by the pitch-dark night.
Oh, right. He'd rented this house out to her—it's not like he lived here himself.
She headed upstairs and stepped into the bedroom.
No one had ever lived in this villa before, but the place was impeccably clean. Not a speck of dust in sight. Even the lilies on the window seat were fresh and blooming, giving off a subtle, calming fragrance.
Charisse sat down on the bed and checked her account balance on her phone.
Truth be told, she didn't have much left. Everything she'd earned over the years had gone into paying for hospital bills. That five million from the night she ran into Elliot again—that ridiculous "kiss money"—was the only big chunk she still had.
Part of that had paid for Arthur's surgery, some of it had gone into repaying Owen. Now there was about 1.3 million left.
