Chapter 24

Charisse thought Elliot would drop her off at a hotel. She didn't expect him to park right in front of the hospital. "Go get checked out," Elliot said. She nodded, "Thanks." He didn't go in with her. Just watched her walk through the hospital doors before driving off. To Charisse, that was already more than enough. She'd half expected him to just leave her on that hillside. She registered herself, found the emergency department, and finished the checkup. The doctor glanced at her results and asked, "Have you had a serious head injury before?" Charisse nodded. "A few years ago I had an accident—got hit on the head." She still had a scar on the back of her head from that, and that's when her memory problems started. "This time it's just a mild concussion. Rest for a few days and keep an eye on any new symptoms. If anything feels off, come back for further tests," the doctor said. She nodded again. The doctor prescribed some ointment for her face as well. Charisse went into the restroom.
