Chapter 38
Elliot let out a chuckle, hard to tell if he was laughing at his former self or at Owen now.
Charisse's hands clenched tightly at her sides. Her breathing slowed, turned heavy and strained. Her chest felt stuffy, her heart aching in dull throbs.
If she had a choice, she honestly wouldn't have brought up the past.
Those memories weren't anything close to pleasant. Pissing him off again wasn't entirely impossible. And right now, she really couldn't afford to face his wrath.
But dragging up old wounds was the only way for him to see how awful a person she'd been, the only path for him to believe she had no lingering feelings for Owen.
It was the only way Owen might still survive this.
Thankfully, Elliot didn't look particularly furious.
At least, nowhere near the rage she'd feared.
She quietly let out a breath.
Elliot said, "Used to think Owen was just a useless loser. Now I kinda feel bad for the guy."
