Chapter 48
Charisse didn't say a word, but inside, she was a mess.
Getting married to Clayton? She couldn't think of anything worse.
The guy had enemies everywhere—staying close to him was like living on the edge of a cliff.
And look at her now, not even his wife yet and already getting her life threatened.
She felt a tight, stormy pressure in her chest. Then Elliot piped up, "Why so quiet?"
"No reason to talk," Charisse replied flatly. "Guess I asked for it."
"Good you know." He pulled out a roll of bandages. "Lean your head over."
"Can't a couple of Band-Aids fix it?"
"You have any idea how big that gash is?" he scoffed. "What am I supposed to do, line four Band-Aids side by side?"
Charisse fell silent.
Elliot started wrapping her head with gauze, circling it twice.
His sleek silk shirt brushed against her cheek—it was smooth and cold. She caught a whiff of his cologne, a light cedar scent. Clean and classy. Fit him perfectly.
Once he finished, he started the car. Neither of them said a word.
