"Elliot, Vincent." She greeted them with a nod.
Vincent rubbed his chin. "Heard a rumor going around—Clayton's fiancée got close to Victor's granddaughter. I was thinking, what kind of nonsense is this? Turns out it's true. Charisse, you really know how to make waves."
"Just a coincidence, really."
"Oh? Guess Clayton lucked out then." Vincent leaned closer and asked quietly, "Did he ask you to do anything for him?"
"No."
"Seriously?" Vincent clearly didn't buy it. "He never asked you to sweet-talk the kid into putting in a good word with Victor? Or keep tabs on who's coming and going around here?"
Charisse figured these businessmen had a scary sense for each other's moves—just from a glance, they could tell what the other was plotting.
Still, she kept calm and said evenly, "Nope. Clayton never mentioned anything like that."
"Oh please." Vincent rolled his eyes. He trusted his gut more than her words when it came to judging Clayton.
