Emily looked at him. She couldn't refuse. "Okay." She nodded lightly. Robert picked the location. It was a nearby restaurant, calm and softly lit. They sat facing each other, but the mood wasn't as pleasant as their surroundings. Emily picked at her food absent-mindedly. She simply wanted to quickly end the meal. In contrast, Robert wasn't in a hurry. He slowly cut his steak and occasionally brought up amusing stories from their university days, trying to ease the tension. He took in Emily's tense profile and noticed how her eyes deliberately avoided his. But he understood that there was no rushing this. After all, no one knew better than he did how deeply he'd hurt her. Being able to sit here and share a meal with her like this was already an unexpected blessing. "The desserts here are good. Want to try some?" He slid the menu toward Emily. "No, I'm full." Emily set her knife and fork down and dabbed at the corner of her mouth with a napkin. "I've got things to do at the com
