Gabriel's breath hitched.
But his silence said enough.
"Gabriel." Emily pushed herself to her feet too fast and swayed. Nevertheless, she steadied herself on the back of the couch, then lifted her eyes to him.
"Do you really think what you did meant anything? Robert was a lunatic who wanted to destroy me. And you? You kept Amelia at your side and hurt me for two years, then tried to wave it off as a 'misunderstanding' and call it even.

Gabriel went rigid. In Emily's eyes, he and Robert were the same kind of man, both having driven her to the edge.

At his touch, her body violently trembled. "Let go!" she screamed. Panic spiked through Emily like a live wire. She fought to wrench free, as if shaking off something filthy.
"Don't touch me! Let go!" She resisted more fiercely now than she had at the villa.
