Hiding under the table, the little guy blinked his big round eyes, head slightly tilted, clearly puzzled.
Adults were weird. Clearly upset, yet pretending everything was fine.

The moment she saw that little face, her heart clenched hard and her expression froze.
"What are you doing down there?"
She quickly set her coffee cup aside and rushed over to the coffee machine table, bending down, concern written all over her face.
"Come on out, it's gotta be super stuffy under there."
Her tone was soft, full of worry.
She didn't know the exact reason he was hiding there, but it wasn't hard to guess—clearly had a spat with the family and ended up pulling a vanishing act.
