Chapter 824
Wyatt was surprised and confused. "What does Leah have to do with your job?"
Xylia explained, "I work for a cosmetics company. We just recently received a huge sales order from a well-known company in the Saint Capital, and everyone in our company was thrilled by the news.
"One of the higher-ups even said that he'll bring all of us on a company trip once everything is over.
"But on the day we were supposed to sign the contract, I ran into Leah. She called me ugly for having a face full of pimples, and then she even claimed that it meant that our company's cosmetic products must be no good either.
"Leah's aunt is one of the managers working for our contractor and was responsible for securing the deal. When she heard what Leah had to say, she immediately canceled the deal with us and chose another cosmetics company instead."
Wyatt frowned from confusion. "A business deal canceled because of a simple childish remark just like that? How is that possible?"
"They're a major player in the industry after all, so they have plenty of options to choose from. We're just a small company without much say in the matter and have to be at their mercy. Plenty of other companies are lining up to take our place."
Wyatt frowned even deeper as he wondered how vile Leah could be, going so far as to claim that Xylia's appearance represented her company's products and ruining their work opportunities.
Xylia's eyes turned red with tears as she continued, "The deal was canceled because of me. I'm sure you can imagine how everyone in the company thinks of me now.
"My supervisor has been berating me non-stop for the past few days. I feel like he would probably strangle me to death if he could."
Wyatt let out a sigh and replied, "It's not your fault at all, Leah's remarks were uncalled for. Tell me, what's the name of their company?"
"Phoenix Entertainment," replied Xylia as her phone started ringing once more.
Wyatt was momentarily stunned. Before long, a grin appeared on his face as he realized that it was the very same company that Deidre had just given to him.
With Deidre transferring 51% of the company's shares to Wyatt, he was now the majority shareholder and essentially owner of Phoenix Entertainment.
He had complete control over the company, and could even replace the entire staff with but a mere word.
A different voice came from Xylia's phone. "This is all your fault, Xylia! We lost the deal all because of you!
"Our company is on the brink of collapse, and we finally got the chance to turn things around with a major contract with Phoenix Entertainment, but you ruined it all!"
Xylia was visibly trembling as she gripped the phone tightly. She was clearly the victim, but she still had to apologize through tears again and again.
"I'm sorry, sir. It's my fault! I let everyone down!"
"Xylia, I don't care what you have to do, even if you have to get on your knees and beg Leah or whatever, you must get the deal back to us! Understand? If you don't make it happen, everyone in the company is going to tear you to pieces!
"I only hired you because your parents asked me to take you into the company! Who would've guessed that you would be our company's downfall? Hundreds of our employees are about to lose their jobs all because of you!"
A loud and harsh slam came through from the other end, ending the call.
Xylia clutched her phone and buried her face into her lap, sobbing uncontrollably. She had no idea who to turn to for help for the unfortunate incident of her pimples ruining everyone's lives.
Xylia was sobbing so badly that even Murray, who was busy driving, could not help but glance at her with pity.
Wyatt passed her a piece of tissue and reassured her. "There's no need to cry, Xylia. I'll handle this for you."
She raised her head and stared at Wyatt through teary eyes for a few seconds before shaking her head. He stared at the destitute Xylia and smiled.
"What's wrong? Don't believe me?"
