This feeling grew stronger as time passed. When Miles spotted several thugs with baseball bats eyeing them suspiciously from a distance, his anxiety peaked.
He touched Matthew's arm and pleaded, "Let's get out of here. It's not worth losing our lives over a truckload of ginger."
Matthew had already noticed the thugs but remained calm, patting Miles's shoulder.
"They're just street punks, don't worry about them," he said before continuing his sales pitch, "Fresh ginger! Just harvested! Three dollars per pound!"
His call finally attracted a customer—a woman in her 40s, slightly plump, riding an electric scooter with a helmet. She pulled up to their stand without dismounting and asked, "Hey, is your ginger really three dollars a pound?"
Matthew brightened at finally getting a potential customer and grabbed a plastic bag. "Yes, ma'am. It's fresh from the farm! It's great quality, fresh, and most importantly—cheap!"
The woman parked her scooter and took the bag. "Can you go any lower
