Morell's expression darkened with frustration. "What? You don't believe I have kids? You think I should have died alone with no family?"
Matthew quickly shook his head. "No, not at all! I just don't understand… if your sons are so successful, why aren't they taking care of you?"
Morell did not answer right away. Instead, he picked up a cup of tea from the table, drained it in one gulp, and set it down with a heavy thud. His face grew distant, his eyes unfocused, as if lost in thought.
Sensing he had touched a nerve, Matthew quickly shifted gears. "I'm sorry if I asked something personal. Let's talk about something else—like Chavelle Wheat."
