Chapter 22 If Being Born Only Means Suffering, I'd Rather Not Be Born
Kaia sat on the bench for such a long time that the sky began to darken, and the streetlights gradually flickered on. The dim yellow light fell softly on her as she sat there in silence.
Her gaze was vacant as she stared into the distance. Cars roared past, the gusts of wind they stirred up tangling her hair, much like the mess her life had become.
Connor silently watched her as he stood in the shadows not far away. Looking at her thin, fragile back, he felt as if countless tiny needles were piercing deep into his heart, the pain spreading to every corner of his body.
He wanted so badly to go to her, to hold her tightly and tell her how deeply he regretted everything. He wanted to tell her that he was willing to atone for the choices he had made. However, she wanted, as long as she gave him a chance.
But he didn't dare. He was afraid that getting too close would only provoke her disgust and rejection again. He was afraid that the chasm between them would become even more impossible
