Chapter 16
In the end, Matthew left the flower shop. His heart was filled with confusion as he trekked back to the hotel by himself. He was suddenly struck with a realization that he didn't really understand his own feelings.
"Why did you look for me, Matthew? If you just want an obedient wife who will do everything you ask her to, just like how I behaved in the past, you can look for anyone who wants to curry favor with the Sterlings.
"I won't be going back. I have my own life now, so you should stop wasting your time on me."
Amelia's last words reverberated in his ears.
Night fell eventually, blanketing him in its darkness.
Matthew looked up at the inky sky. There were only a few twinkling stars, far from enough to illuminate the night sky, just like how they were unable to shine a light on the darkness wrapped around his heart.
Did he only want a wife who attended to his every whim? Matthew didn't believe so. He wanted to tell Amelia that he loved her, but he also knew that she wouldn't
