Chapter 202
After figuring things out, Charles knew he had to talk to Stella and clear the air.
But he'd already been standing outside her door for a whole six hours. At first, he knocked non-stop, but she never responded. Later, he started knocking every once in a while—he didn't want to push too hard, but no matter what, she stayed silent.
"Stella," his voice was hoarse and rough, "can you at least hear me out?"
The room behind the door was dead silent.
Charles wiped his face, couldn't tell if it was sweat or rain. His temples were throbbing hard.
"I know you're in there." He leaned his forehead against the cold door, voice low. "I swear, if Firehunters really had anything to do with your parents' deaths, I'll take it down myself."
A soft sob came from inside—then the sharp crash of glass shattering.
Something twisted in his chest. He clenched his fists. "Give me three days. I'll get my memories back. And if it turns out I'm the one to blame..."
