Charles stopped at the doorway of the hospital room, holding a small bowl of mashed potatoes, still warm and steaming.
He hesitated for a moment, then pushed the door open.
Stella sat silently beside the bed, staring out the window with a cold, empty gaze.
Her face was pale, her eyes dull—like she was completely hollow inside.
He walked toward her slowly, voice low and careful.
"Stella, I brought you something. Just a little mashed potatoes. Try to eat a bit."
She didn't even turn around. Her voice came out sharp and cutting.
"Charles, let's get a divorce."
His hand trembled, nearly dropping the bowl.
He clenched his jaw, forcing himself to stay calm, to keep his voice steady.
"Stella, your body hasn't healed yet. Don't bring this up now. Just focus on getting better. We can talk about everything else… later."
Later? Heal first?
