Chapter 21

"Josie! Josie!" Evan's voice echoed through the street, raw with anguish and regret. In the car, Jarrett glanced at the rearview mirror, watching Evan's frantic figure shrinking in the distance. Then, he turned to Joselyn. After a deep breath, he asked, "Josie, can you tell me everything about you two?" Joselyn lifted her head, her lips trembling. She told Jarrett everything—from the way she and Evan had first met to how they'd grown close, how he'd used her, and how it had all fallen apart. She left nothing out. When she finished, she lowered her head. Her voice was barely above a whisper. "Jarrett, do you think I'm dirty? If you do, I—" Before she could finish, Jarrett pulled her into his arms and held her tight. "You're the purest woman I've ever met. And I'll always love you." Joselyn buried her face in his chest, tears slipping down her cheeks. Jarrett held her close. His expression darkened as he thought about what Evan had done to Joselyn. He glanced at the mirror again
