Chapter 17
Daryl sat behind the wheel, smoothly starting the engine. "Buckle up. I'll take you there. It's safer that way."
Quinley gripped the corner of her cane. For the past few days, her vision had shown signs of improvement. The haze in front of her eyes had gradually lifted.
She could manage most daily tasks on her own now, and the latest test results showed signs of recovery in her optic nerve. That also meant she would be leaving here soon.
The car headed toward the dock. Along the way, Quinley asked to stop and bought a bouquet of bellflowers. She loved bellflowers.
When she was a child, it had been just her and Sarah in a small countryside home. The courtyard was always filled with those flowers.
Later, Gary had shipped in rare variants from overseas, planting an entire garden full of them just for her. However, now, those were all just memories.
"Mr. Putnam, I want to go alone. I'll just look from a distance by the shore," she said, wearing her hat and mask before stepping out.
