On the way back to Jondalia, Percy narrowed his eyes at Scarlett.
She was busy playing a mobile game. When she looked up and caught his scrutinizing gaze, she raised a brow. "Where's your phone?"
She hadn't seen him pull it out even once today. Instead, he had been buried in practice questions the entire time. That actually surprised her.
"I turned it in. It's with Edmund," Percy said.
Scarlett remembered now. "I didn't expect you to actually go through with it. I guess you're really determined to get into Birkstone University."
"Of course." Percy lifted his chin proudly, then muttered with a hint of disdain, "I'm not out here acting cocky like you are. I'll get into Birkstone University, no doubt. But I'm not going to pretend I'm a shoo-in for top ranking in the city."
Scarlett smirked. "It's enough if I believe I can."
"Are you really that confident in yourself? I'm starting to think it's narcissism. And if you push that too far, it's going to bite you," Percy said.
