But that girl named Rebecca Mason acted like she didn't hear anything. As the boats got closer, she just leapt right over.
She turned to the captain of her original boat and said, "You guys go ahead, no need to wait for me."
Watching the boat drift away, Gabriel's face darkened. "Rebecca, what the hell are you trying to do?"
Rebecca, looking all pitiful, walked up to him and tugged gently on the hem of his shirt. "I just missed you, okay? You wouldn't answer my calls, ignored all my texts—so mean! Good thing fate brought us together, huh? Even on a rainy day, we bump into each other out here." She tilted her chin up with a big beaming smile.
Elizabeth turned her head awkwardly to the side—so this was her little brother's girlfriend? Great. She was totally the third wheel here.
But Gabriel peeled her hand off, frowning. "Can you behave a bit? You're a girl, don't go grabbing at boys like that. It's not right."
Then he went back to grilling meat with a completely straight face.
