I forced a strained smile, reluctantly going along with Yelena's words. "Felix and I will do our best," I replied.
Yelena was clearly thrilled. She patted my shoulder and said, "There are so many wealthy young ladies in this circle, but you're my favorite. You're so thoughtful and well-behaved, unlike Amber, who's always making a scene and irritating everyone.
"For a while, I thought Felix might like her, and I was genuinely worried. But thank goodness that he prefers you. Otherwise, I would've been so upset."
As I listened, I didn't know whether to laugh or cry. All I could do was return Helen's signature smile and nod quietly.
