Chapter 13

As soon as Felix stood to leave, he took my hand and led me out the door. On the drive home, he kept one hand on the wheel and glanced at me. "Did you have fun today?" I nodded quickly. "Of course. Wouldn't you be happy to receive so many gifts?" He chuckled softly. "As long as you're happy, I don't mind not getting any gifts." He subtly emphasized the part about not receiving anything, then looked over with a faint smile. I paused, suddenly feeling a little sorry for him. He had watched me receive one gift after another while he got nothing in turn. "I can give you the antique room divider or anything else Grandpa and Grandma gave me. Take your pick," I offered quickly. Felix glanced at me as we hit a red light, his expression suddenly serious. "Would you give me anything I want?" The look in his eyes turned suggestive, and I instantly caught on. My cheeks burned as I shot him a glare. The moment the car stopped outside our home, I quickly opened the door and hurried inside.
