If Amelia hadn't made that call, she would've felt like she hadn't given her all. But now, she really had done what she could. Perhaps this was fate.
What good did it do her to deny fate? She'd now come full circle. In a moment of resignation, she thought, "Whatever the consequences of not being able to pay it off, I'll take it."
She was exhausted.
The phone suddenly rang. Amelia snapped out of her reverie, picked it up, and saw it was Michael calling. She hesitated but didn't answer. Why was Michael calling at this hour? Was it to mock her?
Of course, he owned the hospital. He must have heard about the incident with the creditors.
She had just solemnly promised him that she wouldn't spend a single penny of his money before the agreement took effect, and now, she was driven to desperation by money. Amelia must've looked utterly ridiculous to him.
But why did she need to humiliate herself further? After a few rings, she declined the call.
