"How long are you planning on standing there?"
It wasn't until Michael's sharp voice reached Amelia from a short distance away that she realized he had already moved past her to sit on the couch, staring intently at her. His gaze was hotter than the summer sun, which made her break out in a cold sweat.
"I'm sorry, Mr. Sutton. I didn't mean to be late. It was just too late to get a taxi, so…"
Michael ignored her explanation. "Come here," he commanded.
Amelia slowly moved over.
Seeing her still standing there like a wooden post, Michael frowned. "Do I look like I'll bite?"
Amelia paused, then shook her head.
"Well, sit down, then," said Michael, patting the spot next to him.
Amelia hesitated before sitting down next to him, still keeping her distance.
Michael didn't seem to mind. He reached for a packet of wet wipes from the coffee table beside him and handed them to her. "Clean up."
