Bernard smiled awkwardly when he heard Amelia say that. He did not continue but quickly changed the topic. "Alright, enough about me. Why are you here? Is your family member at the hospital?"
He had noticed the thermos in her hand.
Amelia nodded. "Yes."
Seeing that she clearly didn't want to divulge more, he didn't press further. Instead, Bernard sighed and said, "Your family is truly fortunate to have a thoughtful and kind young lady like you to make soup for them. I'm sure that they will recover very soon."
A warm feeling rose within Amelia's chest. "Thank you for your kind words."
Bernard sighed again. "It's so nice to have a granddaughter at home. They know how to be caring and considerate, unlike that useless grandson of mine. He does nothing but make me angry all day. I'd be satisfied if he were even half as thoughtful as you."
