Chapter 76 A Warning
Madeline narrowed her eyes and smirked coldly. That conceited curl of her lips made Lisa nervous.
"An engagement, huh?"
Madeline idly toyed with the edge of her mask. Her voice wasn't loud, but it was sharp and clear. "If I remember correctly, Samuel personally came to our doorstep about two weeks ago to call it off."
Blood drained from Lisa's face. Her lips quivered. "Y-You knew?"
"Of course. I'm a Harrington, too. Why wouldn't I know?"
But that wasn't what frightened Lisa the most.
Madeline took a step forward and leaned close to Lisa's ear, whispering, "And don't forget one more thing—the engagement his family agreed to was never meant for you, the knock-off. It was meant for me, the true daughter of the Harrington family."
"That's nonsense!" Lisa snapped, her voice shooting up like a startled cat. She immediately covered her mouth and glanced around in panic.
The hallway was silent. Only the hall lamps cast a dim yellow glow, with no other silhouette in sight.
