Iris was stunned because she never thought that Simon would take off his coat for her to wear. He had been wearing the coat earlier, thus it carried with it some warmth which Iris felt when the coat was placed on her. Iris was dumbfounded for a few seconds before she regained her senses and instinctively looked at where Quentin was standing. Quentin stood there without any expression as if he had no reaction toward Simon taking off his coat for Iris. This made Iris a little disappointed but because it was Quentin, she felt that nothing was wrong with it. He was not bothered does not mean that she should just accept it. Iris then smiled gratefully at Simon and said, “Thanks, but I’m not cold.” She then took off the coat and returned it to Simon. She made her actions obvious and did not hide her emotions when she looked at Quentin. Simon understood what she was doing, she was returning the coat to him because she was worried that Quentin would misunderstand. She refused to wear it
