When my father came to the hospital to find me, my soul was floating above the office. He pushed open the door and looked around, but since he didn't see me, he turned around and called a young nurse in the hallway. “Did Valerie not come to the hospital today?” The young nurse looked him up and down with a strange expression. “May I ask who you are?” My father smiled, “I'm her father, here to talk to her about something.” “Oh... so you're Doctor Lee's father!” The nurse dragged out her words, her tone tinged with sarcasm, then gave my father a cold smile. “Doctor Lee has been dead for half a year; her bones have turned to dust. Didn't you know?” I saw my father freeze for a moment, then take a deep breath and start yelling at the nurse. “What kind of quality do the staff at this hospital have? Making jokes about such a thing. Tell Valerie, that unfilial daughter, that if she doesn’t want to go home, she should never come back for the rest of her life. There’s no need to tell such lies to deceive her own parents. I don’t know what kind of karma I’ve accumulated to have such a troublesome daughter!” The young nurse was immediately furious and opened her mouth to retort. But my father didn't give her a chance, continuing his tirade before storming into the elevator. I saw the young nurse's eyes turn red with anger as she clenched her fists and stomped her feet. “Dr. Lee was such a good person. How could she have such parents? If the dead Dr. Lee had heard those words, how heartbroken she would have been!” I walked over, patted her shoulder, and whispered comfortingly. “Don’t be angry, don’t be angry. I’m already dead; the dead don’t feel sad!” Though I said that, I still felt a bit suffocated. No parents would receive news of their daughter’s death six months later, let alone immediately accuse her of lying and deceiving them upon hearing the news. As I watched the elevator descend, I found myself following my father home. Standing in the expensive, bright villa, I felt a bit dazed. This was the Lee Family’s home, but I had never stayed here before because my parents wouldn’t allow it. Even meeting with them was a luxury. That's why my father's sudden visit today made me feel something was off. As I was thinking this, a well-dressed mother and daughter approached us—it was my mother and my younger sister Tara. “Dad, how about it? Did you see my sister?” My father’s face turned ashen as he snapped, “What sister? I’ve told you so many times, she’s not your sister. Not only did she avoid me, but she even had the hospital nurses lie to me, saying she was dead. Hmph, I wish she had really died out there. What an ungrateful thing!” Tara froze for a moment, but the corners of her mouth twitched slightly. My mother, standing beside him, began to scold me as well. “You ungrateful brat! To avoid your family, you’d even say such nonsense!” After venting her anger, she furrowed her brows, her voice filled with anxiety. “But honey, if we can't find Valerie, how are we going to raise money to save the company?” My father gritted his teeth in anger, “She can't hide forever. The hospital isn't that big. I don't believe we can't find her!” My mother nodded in agreement, “But Mr. Phillips, though in his fifties, is alone in the world. Once she marries him, she’ll be a wealthy lady, living in luxury and indulgence. It’s far better than working that miserable job. We’re doing this for her own good. She’s just ungrateful!” So that’s why my father suddenly went to the hospital to find me today! I floated in the air, looking at their angry faces, as if I were an irredeemable enemy, and couldn't help but smile bitterly. It's a good thing I died early. Otherwise, I would have kept asking them over and over again, how could they treat me like this.
