"Theodore, whatever we had is over. I just want a quiet life now. I don't want to be on edge all the time, worrying someone's gonna come in and mess it all up," she said, eyes lowered.
"It's all in the past? I don't buy that. There was clearly a misunderstanding between us, but now everything's cleared up. Why can't you just come back?" he asked, frustration creeping in as he tried to make sense of her coldness.
Her chest tightened. But she couldn't think only about herself.
"There's no going back, Theodore. We're not the same people anymore, right? You're with Isabella now. Since you've chosen her, treat her well. I'm not interested in fighting over a guy, not with anyone."
