Chapter 250 No Remains Were Found

The beach was already swarming with police officers and patrol cars. Rescue boats kept hauling things out of the water, but none of it had anything to do with Elaine. Joseph dropped to a crouch in front of the pile of freshly recovered debris, looking completely lost. He reached into the heap of foul-smelling, tangled junk, digging through it with his bare hands. Dirty water splashed across his face, and he looked utterly exhausted and wrecked. Lenny couldn't stop him, no matter how hard he tried, so he gave up and joined in the search. Joseph searched carefully. He couldn't dive into the deep sea to look for her himself, and there was nothing else he could do. This was all he had. Maybe, just maybe, he'd find something. It was as if finding even the tiniest trace of her would prove that she was still alive and still out there somewhere, safe. But he found nothing.
