Chapter 97: No One Ever Said Life Was Fair
Three days later, Violet saw Jude. He had travelled off to see some relatives and they had not seen for that long. Violet was glad to see him back. There were other tenants in the building but she was closer to Jude than the others. She felt she could trust Jude, they were friends and confidants.
She knew that Jude would want to know what she had decided concerning his proposal.
She still could not bring herself to marry Jude. It was just not fair but life was not fair. If it were, her twin would not be at longer heads with her over her own fiance and the father of her child, she thought. But by some cruel twist of fate, the father of her child was also the father of the child of her twin sister. So it was all so messed up and the best thing she can do would be to marry Jude whether she wanted to or not.
'Welcome Jude', she said, looking him over. 'The countryside was really good on you'. She would have hugged him ordinarily but she did not want to give him the wrong impression.
