“It’s nothing,” Dexter Goodwin shook his head slightly, not wanting her to worry.
Celestia Brooks frowned, brows knitting together. “Look at this… It’s already swelling. I think we need to at least get it cleaned up.”
Jareth Carrington stood there, watching Celestia fuss over Dexter like he wasn’t even in the room, and his anger kept bubbling higher with every second. He couldn’t say anything, couldn’t do anything—only held the woman beside him tighter and tighter, until her sudden cry broke the silence.
“Ow, that hurts!” sea yelped.
Both Celestia and Dexter turned to look. Jareth glanced down, muttering, “Sorry.” He acted like he was checking sea’s arm, but his eyes were clearly straying toward Celestia.
Of course sea noticed. She let out a sweet laugh and shook her head slightly. “You’re too sweet, Jareth.” But she was already mentally bookmarking this moment—she’d covered for him this once, and next time he’d owe her.
