Chapter 9

" Goodbye, " I say to Sylvia stepping down from the car before watching the car drive away then enter through the gate. I really had fun seeing my sister today it brought back old memories, she always knows how to get me on the right track. I open the door to find Emma running down the stairs towards me before pulling me into her embrace. "I hope you are not irate with me ?" she asks withdrawing from the embrace with pleading eyes and a pout on her lip. "no, I know you only want the best for me," I say with a smile. "I was worried you would be angry with me," she says with a smile" Sylvia was so worried so she asked me to tell her what was going on with you and the baby " she explains with a smile. "I understand but right now I really need to rest my back, " I say walking towards the stairs. "Okay, " she calls after me. I open the door to my room dropping my bag on the reading desk by the bed before checking through my closet for more relaxing clothes. I decided to change into gray sweatpants and sweatshirts before entering the bathroom, I watch my face with water by the sink to moisturize my face before walking back into the room, pushing the curtains to one side letting the sun rays into the room before laying on the bed as silence envelopes me waiting to welcome sleep as a wide smile appears on my lip. ~~~~~~~~~~ I turn on the bed for a few minutes before deciding to drink water so I made my way downstairs into the kitchen to meet silence. "It seems no one is home yet" I mumble walking towards the fridge to get a jug of water. I place the jug on the kitchen table before finding a notepad placed on the table catching my attention finding it to be a message from Emma "my parents sent for me and Damien but we will be back for dinner " I read before placing the notepad back on the table. I fill an empty glass with water then gulp down the content satisfying my dry throat before checking through the fridge and cabinets for what I can use in preparing dinner. I decided on preparing spaghetti with chicken and red sauce for dinner, Kate actually taught me my way in the kitchen which is coming useful to me now. I busy myself preparing the meal after that I entered Chance room to take his dirty clothes, pushing the door open walking towards his lavatory, Chance always has a taste for the best never going for anything less not when he has billions under his name. I pick up the basket of his dirty clothes close to the sink before leaving his room towards the laundry room. After doing the laundry I kept myself busy doing some research work on my laptop, sitting cross-legged on the couch in the living room with my laptop placed comfortably on my lap and a book and pen placed on the center table in front of me. After a few hours of writing down whatever is useful to me from the internet with boredom being in complete silence before hearing the door click open letting Chance walk into the living room looking weary and deprived of sleep. I follow his every move with my eyes as he places himself on the couch opposite mine with a loud relaxing sigh. "Um...good evening, " I say awkwardly staring at him quizzically. "what are you doing? " he asks surprising me with his question, I really wasn't expecting him to say anything. I clear my throat to taste the clarity of my voice before staring down at my laptop " just doing some research on new expecting mother's " I say making a scowl appeared on his handsome features. Silence fell upon us almost blocking my lungs from receiving air " so how were your classes today?" I ask breaking the suffocating silence. His lips twitch slightly into a smile "it was okay even with Professor Adam boring logic stories about the business world" I laugh " mine was boring at the same time interesting, " I say with a smile. "Yeah, always the neutralist," he says laughing lightly. Seeing him laugh brought a smile to my face knowing I could still put a smile on his lips made me feel like I have accomplished something. "you know I still love you, right?" I ask being overwhelmed with my feelings causing a commotion in my head. I don't expect him to answer the question but I just needed to let him know my feelings remain the same even with how he keeps treating me. The look on his face was of guilt and remorse making me a bit confused by his expression. "Hey, guys" comes the voice of my best friend Emma breaking the tension surfacing. She walks into the living room with Damian right behind her before taking a seat on the couch while Damien did the friend's handshake with Chance. "by the way where is Louis ?" I ask because I haven't seen him since earlier this morning. "he is out on a date, "Damien says with a smirk. "Louis on a date more like one night hook up" Emma mumble under her breath. "Louis shouldn't know that's what you think about his love life, " Damian says laughing. "dinner is ready, let me just get the table ready," I say getting up from the couch. "let me help you," she says following me into the kitchen. Emma set the plates and cutleries on the dinner table while I dish the food into a serving bowl before placing it together with the plate and cutleries on the dinner table. Damien and Chance later joined us in the dining room "so any good news?" I raise a question making a conversation between us. Me and Chance are on both sides while Emma is closer to me and Damien opposite her" nothing, my mum just wanted to see Damien because it had been long she spoke with him" she shrugs dishing food on her plate. "do you have any class tomorrow? " she asks taking a bit off her plate. "yes and I also have a doctor's appointment tomorrow by 3:00," I say nonchalantly sipping a little water from my glass. "This food is savory, " Damien says stuffing his mouth with food getting a look of disgust from Emma " Thanks, that's one of the reasons you love me," I say smirking. "it's not one of the reasons but I can add that, " he says before wiping his mouth using a napkin. We talk about our day while eating, after eating Emma volunteered to do the dishes saying I need some rest and I won't disagree because I get tired easily these days. Picking the things I left in the living room I make my way towards my room. I brush my teeth before deciding on taking a relaxing shower, after getting ready in pajamas I pull the window and curtains close before laying on the bed with a relaxing sigh. I hope every day could be more beautiful than this, Sylvia was like a pull I need away from my depression, she made me speak to mum. I am delighted that I could speak with mum, she was a bit angry with me for not calling and worst I lied to her. I might not be able to see them but I know they will always support me. ~~~~~~~~~~~ " can you please take me to the hospital, " I say getting into Chance's car since he decided to bring me to school today which was a big surprise to me. "no problem, " he says pulling out of the parking lot focusing his gaze on the road " when will the pregnancy become noticeable?" he questions not meeting my gaze. "I don't know but I am getting big" I shrug staring at him for a few minutes before looking through the closed window. Driving into the parking lot of the hospital he parks the car and to my surprise, he too got out. I stare at him in bewilderment" what are you doing? " I ask as he walks towards me taking my hand in his before leading me towards the entrance of the hospital. "I am coming with you and besides you have no ride home if I were to leave you here," he says in a duh tone for a guy who never wanted anything to do with this baby, he is precisely full of surprises today. "I could always take the bus," I say with a frown on my face. He pushes the door open pulling me by my wrist into the hospital, "can you drop it already " he says looking everywhere with distaste" why this hospital among other well-equipped hospitals?" he questions as we walk towards the waiting room. "I can't afford that and if you have forgotten I am funding myself, " I say not liking his critics. "you can al..." "I have an appointment with Dr. Anna Carson, " I say to a nurse on duty cutting him off pushing down the temptation to slap his countenance. He shoots me a glare which I ignore" and you are? " she asks with a smile. "Shiloh Malia Sante," I say with a smile placing my pregnancy card on the counter. "appointment by 3:00 ?" she asks taking the card from the counter looking through it" okay wait over there you will see her in a minute, " she says directing us to a seat by the corner where a lady and two other people are seated. We took our seats waiting in silence before my name was called. We walk inside the office to find Dr. Anna writing something down" how are you doing miss Shiloh? " she asks with a smile. "fine," I say taking a seat opposite hers while Chance takes a seat close to my eyes roaming around the room. "Just feeling a little bigger around the middle of my belly, " I say touching my belly to make an emphasis. "any other sign I need to know?" she asks locking her hands together placing them on the desk. " I kind of feel more thirsty and easily irritated and I also feel nauseous by just the sight of some food I normally would enjoy," I say synchronously. "it all comes with being pregnant, " she says matter of fact before her gaze shift to Chance" is he the father? " she asks. I look at Chance trying to study his expression but he gave nothing away keeping his eyes on me "no he is just a friend " I said averting my eyes from him. She glanced at us for a few minutes with acknowledgment in her eyes before glancing back at the paper on her table " okay I will prescribe a folic acid supplement for you since it's just your 1st semester " she says softly " you will be having your dating scan, routine blood test and rehesus status today" she says standing from her chair. "come with me," she says directing me towards a room where she carried out the test before going back into her office after the check-up to find Chance busy on his phone doing whatever he does with his phone " so that's all, you will get the test results on your next appointment," she says placing a file on her desk before taking a seat while I do the same. "okay " I reply. " on your next appointment we will check your blood count and do an early ultrasound scan because by then you will be 11 weeks pregnant, " she says with a smile on her lip" three days from then you have your EDD," she continues. "no other prescription?" I inquire. "no, that will be all for now just get the folic acid supplement from the nurse" she instructs. I did as she says before walking back towards Chance's car " you know I can get you a better doctor? " he asks more like say getting into the car while I do the same. "I know but you made it clear you don't care about me or this baby, " I say matter of fact, he is behaving so weird and so forgetful, what is going through his mind right now. "never mind," he says pulling out of the parking lot his hand holding the steering wheel tightly making his hand go white. I sigh loudly rubbing my aching temple, today has been stressful and full of unwanted surprise from Chance. Chance has always been the most difficult person to read. I glance his way, his eyes focus on the road and his jaw clenched" I can never seem to understand you" I say with a shake of my head.
