Chapter 1994

Mavis had not been out for a while and was visibly tired. Despite the situation, Elliot surprisingly did not show any signs of jealousy. However, Nathaniel took the opportunity to carefully lift Mavis from Sheena's arms and hold her close as he carried her back to the ward. Sheena and Elliot followed closely behind. Once Mavis was settled back into her hospital bed, the tiredness and frustration of the past days seemed to ease as she finally managed to get some restful sleep. The others moved quietly around her, making sure not to disturb her. Sheena, using sign language, made a few gestures to Nathaniel. [Come outside. I need to talk to you.] Nathaniel understood the message and followed her out of the room, with Elliot following them silently. Once they reached the empty corridor, Nathaniel asked, "Nana, what do you need to discuss?" Sheena's expression was solemn as she spoke, "I noticed that Mae's mood seemed off. She seems sad and troubled." Nathaniel frowned. "Did she say anything to you?" Sheena shook her head, maintaining a composed demeanor. "She didn't say anything specific, but as someone who has been pregnant myself and experienced similar worries, I can tell that she's trying to hide her true feelings." Nathaniel seemed to accept this explanation without further questions. Sheena continued, "I think you should have her undergo a psychological evaluation for her pregnancy. Make sure to take her out regularly, let her socialize with friends, and help her relieve stress. Don't wait until she's really ill or does something drastic before you regret it." Nathaniel nodded in agreement. "I understand. I'll take care of it. Don't worry, Nana." Sheena glared at him. It was precisely because of him that she was worried. Despite her frustration, Sheena chose not to voice it. Instead, she took Elliot's hand and said, "Remember what I said. We'll visit Mae again in a while, and I hope to see her smiling and happy then." Nathaniel nodded. The next day, Nathaniel took Mavis to get a psychological evaluation. He waited alone in the doctor's office while the doctor reviewed the diagnosis. The doctor handed Nathaniel the report and explained, "Sir, your wife is suffering from severe prenatal depression. This condition is quite dangerous and harmful to both her and the baby." Nathaniel's heart sank as he read the diagnosis on the paper. [Severe Prenatal Depression.] With a heavy tone, he asked, "How can this be treated? Can she take medication?" The doctor shook his head. "She is malnourished and quite advanced in her pregnancy, so medication is not advisable. It's better to start with psychological counseling and ensure she gets out of the room to brighten her mood. She needs emotional support, so try to keep her company as much as possible. If you have other commitments and can't be with her, consider having her parents or close friends visit regularly. They can share happy moments with her and help lift her spirits." On the way back to the ward, Nathaniel was lost in thought. He reflected on the doctor's advice, realizing it mirrored what Sheena had said. Prenatal depression? Had he caused this by isolating her? With a troubled expression, he returned to the room. As soon as he opened the door, he was horrified to find Mavis standing by the table with a small fruit knife, measuring the position of her wrist veins. He gasped in shock and rushed over immediately. "Mavis!"
