Chapter 24
A year later, Eliana had become a nationally acclaimed news anchor. She and Kevin were now together as a couple.
One day, just as she was getting ready for her usual broadcast, her phone rang. The call was specifically for her.
Eliana was a bit surprised, but she answered anyway.
On the other end was Margaret's voice.
"Eliana, Gabriel is gone. Can you come back for a bit?"
Eliana froze, stunned that Gabriel had died in just a year. After a moment's hesitation, she agreed to go over after she finished work.
By the time she arrived at the Ford residence, the funeral was already over. The two kids were sound asleep, their eyes red and puffy, clearly from crying too much.
Eliana walked in quietly and saw that Margaret was the only one still awake.
"Eliana, you're here. I wasn't sure if I should even tell you. I know you don't really care anymore, but there's something I need to give you," Margaret said, her voice wearier than before.
