Charlie was genuinely, sincerely concerned about her.
That realization left Diana feeling dazed, and the sense of déjà vu grew increasingly stronger. It was as if they had known each other for a long, long time.
She lowered her gaze and said nothing.
"If he's mistreating you, perhaps…" He paused for several seconds. "Perhaps leaving him is the best way to protect yourself."
She kept her head low, still silent.
To Charlie, her reaction seemed to carry another meaning—a silent rejection.
"I'm sorry," he said, pursing his lips.
A flicker of regret crossed his face. "I know I overstepped. I have no right to say any of this. But Diana, you didn't use to be so hesitant and indecisive in the past."
Diana's head shot up, her eyes wide.
"In the past? Did… did we know each other before?"
Right. Evelyne had mentioned once that Charlie used to like her. He had even written her a love letter and given her gifts.
But why couldn't she remember anyone like him from her school days?
