"What are you doing here?" Hank got up, his tone a bit sharp—clearly already annoyed.
Irene's smile froze for a second, then she quickly softened her expression. "Did you forget? We're supposed to have dinner at my place today. To celebrate me getting discharged. Mom cooked up a whole table of food. And besides..."
Her cheeks flushed just a little, like she was trying to play coy. "Besides, we're getting married soon, right? It's time our parents meet properly."
Hank frowned slightly, his eyes fixed on her.
"Chloe's missing. How's your family not panicking even a little? Isn't Chloe Aunt Jennifer's biological daughter? Why doesn't she seem worried at all?"
Something about it just didn't add up. He couldn't quite put his finger on it, but the whole thing felt off.
