After dropping Priscilla off at her place, Maddox immediately pulled out his phone and called his assistant, Hayden Durham. He instructed the latter to investigate why Priscilla had come to Lindow alone.
Back at the cottage, Maddox couldn't sleep. He wasn't nearly as calm as he had appeared in front of Priscilla earlier. In fact, he had to make a conscious effort to steady his heartbeat, afraid that its intensity might have startled her.
His phone chimed with a message. It was from Hayden. After reading the text, Maddox couldn't help but smile.
"Word is that, just a few days ago at Josiah's birthday party, his childhood sweetheart publicly announced that he and Ms. Collins were divorced. She then confessed her feelings to Josiah. I'll get you the full details tomorrow."
It seemed that she was divorced. His chance had finally come. It was, without a doubt, the best news he had received in a long time.
