Chapter 6

The car stopped in front of the Beach family villa. Madeleine held Chris tightly in her arms, her eyes vigilantly watching Clinton, "What do you want?" "Starting from today, you'll stay here recuperating for a month, and then you'll go to the hospital to donate a kidney to Abigail." Clinton gave his orders and then got out of the car. In front of the car window, he lifted his hand to inspect the bite marks left on it, cursing discontentedly, "Little bastard." At this moment, the driver that followed him out of the car walked to him and whispered in his ear, "Mr. Beach]... have you noticed? The child bears some resemblance to you?" Upon hearing this, Clinton was taken aback, subconsciously turning his head back to look at Chris in the car. He carefully scrutinized Chris's appearance and indeed found some facial similarities between Chris and the Beach family members. However, he knew for sure that he had never touched Madeleine. When he was in love with her, he had always cherished her like a treasure, reluctant to touch her because he wanted to save the most precious moment for their wedding night. But to his surprise, she couldn't bear loneliness and cheated on him with another man. Upon remembering this, his face darkens again. He gave the driver a chilling glance and warned, "This is none of your business." Then he ordered the nanny to call Chris out of the car. The nanny, following his command, went to the car and asked Chris to get out. But Chris acted like a little wolf pup, hiding in the car and refusing to come out. Seeing his disobedience, the nanny lost her patience and lifted her hand to hit Chris, but instead got bitten by him. "You little beast, how dare you bite me. Are you seeking death?" The nanny was furious, picked up a broomstick from the ground, and swung it at Chris. Seeing this, Madeleine instinctively protected him in her arms, taking the broomstick hit straight on her back. It hurt terribly. She endured the pain without crying out because she had already gotten used to this level of beating. "What's with the noise?" At that moment, a man's deep chastising voice echoed from the balcony on the second floor. The nanny started with the statement, her body trembling and her face filled with fear. She turned around and apologetic words spilled from her mouth, "I'm sorry, Mr. Beckett. I didn't mean to disturb your rest." Beckett knitted his brows, his chilly gaze landing on Clinton. Seeing this, Clinton's heart tightened, and he tensely asked, "Beckett... why are you here?" Beckett had always been a clean freak. After growing up, he moved out of the Beach family's mansion and rarely came back. Thus, seeing him here made Clinton quite taken aback. "Are you displeased to see me here?" Beckett questioned coldly. Frightened, Clinton hurriedly lowered his head, avoiding Beckett's gaze, "No, no. I was just surprised to suddenly see you here, and that's all." Clinton was so wary because he was afraid of Beckett's power and authority. Though they were both of the Beach family, the entire Beach Group was basically relying on Beckett. In Pinebrook, everyone knew the Beach family held monumental power. They were unrivaled in the business world, a family not to be trifled with nor easily befriended. Beckett, as the president of the Beach Group, was a man no one dared to provoke. In the car, Madeleine heard Beckett's voice, and her fingers, which were holding on Chris, stiffened. She thought, why did this voice sound so familiar? "Take the people in the car to the servant's quarters and lock them up." Outside the car, Clinton whispered an order to the nanny, terrified of provoking Beckett's anger. The nanny obediently followed the command, glancing deliberately at the second floor's balcony before she moved. Seeing that Beckett was no longer there, she crawled into the car, wrapping her hands on Chris's clothes, "Brat, get out of the car immediately. If you continue being disobedient, I'll beat you to death." Madeleine clung desperately to Chris, her voice choked, "We're not staying here, we're going home." With that, she opened the door on the other side, holding Chris as she descended from the car, ready to run. Seeing this, Clinton swiftly caught up and pulled her back by her hair, "Madeleine, know your place." Seeing his mother being bullied, the usually strong Chris couldn't hold back his tears any longer, shouting, "Big bully, don't bully my mom." Seeing Chris cry out of fear, Madeleine felt heartbroken and held him tighter. Her eyes were red as she glared at Clinton, "I've already agreed to donate a kidney, what more do you want? Do you want to push me to death?" "To push you to death would be letting you off too easily. If you hadn't colluded with your birth mother to swap Abigail's life, she wouldn't have developed severe depression, let alone nearly die in a car accident. "Everything you're suffering now is what you deserve." Hatred filled Clinton's eyes. Madeleine lowered her eyes. The pain and damage of the past had already happened, and she could not change it. But she was uninformed back then! When Abigail's real identity as the daughter of the Beach family was revealed, she told everyone about the years of torment she had endured in the Price family, even fabricating lies that Dane had sexually harassed and threatened her since she was a child, causing her immense psychological harm, leading to severe depression. Everyone believed her, and no one believed Madeleine and Dane. But the truth was that their mother Jocelyn Price and Dane treated her with complete sincerity and kindness. The Price family was not well-off, and Jocelyn couldn't afford to send both children to school. Out of guilt, she allowed Dane to drop out of school to give Abigail the opportunity. The same guilt drove Jocelyn to work tirelessly day and night, merely to give Abigail a better life. Dane, who had dropped out of school, was also forced to work and earn money for Abigail's expenses under the compulsory request of Jocelyn. Due to Jocelyn's excessive favoritism, Dane finally couldn't control his outburst one day and got into an argument with Jocelyn. In order to calm Dane's emotions, Jocelyn had no choice but to reveal the truth. Little did she know, these words were overheard by Abigail who had been hiding at the door. Afterward, Abigail immediately ran to the Landry family, revealed the truth, and slandered Madeleine, claiming that both Madeleine and the Price family had been in cahoots, planning everything all along. In reality, it was only that day that Madeleine found out that she was not the biological daughter of the Landry family. From that day forward, Madeleine's life underwent dramatic changes. "I've said it many times, I did not collude with my biological mother, and I truly didn't know about the identity swap. Why won't you believe me?" "It seems that five years in prison have still not made you reflect on yourself." Clinton raised his hand disdainfully, ready to slap Madeleine. Madeleine retreated two steps reflexively, causing his hand to swing in the air. At this moment, the peeved Chris in her arms blurted out, "Big bully, don't touch my mom!" The little guy wanted to protect his mother, but he knew he was too small to fight against Clinton. Seeing Clinton about to lay his hands on her again, Chris preemptively yelled towards Clinton's behind, "Daddy!" Then, he quickly jumped out of Madeleine's arms and pounced towards the man who just came out from the door. Clutching Beckett's leg, he shouted, "Daddy... please save mom!"
