Chapter 902
The nanny and butler rushed into Fu Wenxi's room. As soon as they turned on the light, they saw Bai Heming lying on the bed, his head bleeding profusely from being struck.
His hands were twisted in an unnatural position.
"..." The nanny gasped in horror as she ran forward. "Madam, it's... it's Mr. Bai!"
Fu Wenxi feigned shock. "How is that possible? I locked my door! How could he... Why didn't Heming say anything before coming in? This is terrifying—I thought it was a burglar, so I..."
Tears welled up in her eyes as she spoke. "I just grabbed the ornament on the table and hit him."
"Call an ambulance, quick!" the nanny shouted in panic before dashing out to make the call.
Fu Wenxi smirked coldly, her gaze falling on the key Bai Heming had dropped on the floor. Clearly, this creep had tried to sneak into her room in the middle of the night—he just hadn’t counted on her being so alert.
"Get him to the hospital, now!" she cried, pretending to be frantic with worry.
Then, clutching her stomach, she groaned dramatically. "Ohhh, my stomach hurts... The shock must’ve gotten to me. Call another ambulance for me!" She slumped against the wall, sliding down to the floor. If she was going to sell this act, she had to look even worse off than Bai Heming.
...
Early the next morning.
Li Jingyu had spent the entire night restless with worry. The moment dawn broke, he dragged Bai Yu out of bed, determined to head straight to Bai Heming’s place.
Bai Yu yawned, shooting him a bleary-eyed glance. "Young Master Li, it's barely 6:30 in the morning. The sun just rose."
"This is exactly when burglars strike. Who robs houses at eight or nine in the morning?" Li Jingyu lectured him.
Bai Yu sighed and muttered under his breath, "Fine, you're the expert. Whatever you say."
Li Jingyu dragged Bai Yu straight to Fu Wenxi's residence.
But it was barely past six in the morning, and the housekeeper was already sweeping the courtyard. The owners weren’t even awake yet—wouldn’t that disturb their sleep?
"Where’s my brother? Our place got robbed, it’s not safe. My boyfriend and I are staying here for a while," Bai Yu whispered.
The housekeeper shook her head. "Miss Bai Yu, you’ve come at a bad time. Madam and Sir have gone to the hospital."
Bai Yu froze. "What?"
Li Jingyu’s face darkened with urgency. "The hospital? What happened to Fu Wenxi?"
"Madam is fine, it’s Sir… He fell last night, hit his head, and had to be hospitalized." The housekeeper tactfully avoided mentioning that he’d been beaten by his wife.
Li Jingyu exhaled in relief. There was no way Fu Wenxi would be the one in the hospital.
"Let’s go, to the hospital." He grabbed Bai Yu’s hand and hurried off.
"Your wife is fierce," Bai Yu muttered, admiration creeping into her voice. Something told her Bai Heming’s "fall" wasn’t entirely accidental.
"Watch your mouth," Li Jingyu warned, shooting her a glare.
"Your wife—" Bai Yu sucked in a breath, survival instincts kicking in. "I mean, since she’s your wife, Jingyu, I should call her sister-in-law, right…?"
Li Jingyu raised an eyebrow, visibly pleased. "Fine."
If Bai Yu was calling Fu Wenxi "sister-in-law," then he’d take it as her acknowledging his wife.
...
Nan Cheng Hospital.
When Li Jingyu and Bai Yu arrived, Bai Heming was still unconscious. Rumor had it he had a concussion—still out cold—and both his arms were broken. No way this was just a simple fall.
"Odd way to fall, don’t you think? Landed on his head, yet somehow both arms snapped?" The doctor muttered under his breath. "Especially with the injury on the back of his skull..."
"Don’t overthink it," Reuben said in a hushed tone. "The patient briefly regained consciousness and insisted it was just a fall. What’s there to investigate?"
The other doctor nodded. "Understood, Dr. Brooks."
Li Jingyu rushed forward, blocking Reuben’s path. "What the hell happened?"
Reuben gave him a meaningful look. "See for yourself. Took quite the tumble."
Li Jingyu felt a mix of schadenfreude and concern for Fu Wenxi.
Stepping into the hospital room, he found Fu Wenxi sitting perfectly unharmed by the bedside, admiring Bai Heming’s heavily bandaged head.
"How did he manage to ‘fall’ like this?" Li Jingyu asked.
"Who knows..." Fu Wenxi replied airily.
"Really? No idea?" Li Jingyu eyed him skeptically.
"I locked the door before bed, but someone picked the lock and came in during the night. Thought it was a burglar, so I bashed his head in. Had no idea it was Bai Heming," Fu Wenxi said, feigning innocence.
Li Jingyu suppressed a laugh, giving Fu Wenxi a thumbs-up.
How to smash that damn pervert to death.
Fu Wenxi curled the corner of her lips slightly and said nothing more.
Beside them, Bai Yu was utterly stunned, staring at Fu Wenxi with a mix of admiration, astonishment, and emotion—her expression was complex and utterly vivid.
"Sis-in-law..." Bai Yu ventured cautiously, her voice soft. "You're so cool. I think I might be falling for you. Do you mind the gender thing?"
Fu Wenxi glanced at Bai Yu, then shifted her gaze to Li Jingyu.
Li Jingyu gritted his teeth, his tone dripping with disdain. "Think carefully before you speak."
Bai Yu stiffened in fright, standing ramrod straight.
Li Jingyu, visibly irritated, stepped between Bai Yu and Fu Wenxi. Fu Wenxi already had that clingy assistant to deal with—now Bai Yu was joining the fray.
"I don’t really mind, actually," Fu Wenxi said, her lips quirking slightly.
Bai Yu’s eyes sparkled with excitement. "His hands—"
"Both broken. I thought he was a burglar, so I snapped them preemptively—just in case he tried anything." Fu Wenxi delivered the explanation coolly.
Bai Yu’s admiration was practically overflowing.
She looked like she might burst into tears from sheer emotion.
That freak Bai Heming had finally met his match.
...
The Grand Bliss Hotel.
Tang Jinzhou dragged himself out of bed, his robe hanging loosely off his shoulders, his eyes heavy with lingering drowsiness. Clearly, he hadn’t gotten nearly enough sleep.
He snatched up his phone and answered the call, his voice rough with irritation. "This better be important."
"Mr. Tang, Bai Heming’s been hospitalized. Today’s meeting is postponed."
Tang Jinzhou paused, momentarily stunned. "Well, well. The heavens have finally opened their eyes. Who put him in the hospital?"
"Uh… word is he took a fall. By himself," the assistant replied, sounding slightly embarrassed.
A slow, amused grin spread across Tang Jinzhou’s face. "Buy some fruit. We’re going to pay him a visit."
The thought of Bai Heming laid up in a hospital bed was too delicious to resist. Tripped over his own feet? Karma really was a bitch.
Playing with the Bai family was like a cat toying with a mouse—Tang Jinzhou wasn’t in any hurry to finish them off. No, he’d take his time, savoring every moment of their downfall.
If he wanted to twist the knife in Bai Zhenhua’s gut, he’d have to start with the man’s most treasured possession: his beloved son.
Bai Zhenhua had always favored sons over daughters, and Bai Heming was the golden child, the apple of his father’s eye.
...
Pinebrook Hospital.
Fu Wenxi had been keeping vigil, with Li Jingyu and Bai Yu by her side.
When Bai Heming finally woke up, he wanted to lash out at Fu Wenxi, but the room was too crowded. Just as he was about to shoo Li Jingyu and Bai Yu away so he could properly lecture her, Tang Jinzhou walked in with an entourage.
Tang Jinzhou had brought a fruit basket and a floral arrangement—though the flowers looked more like a funeral wreath, a testament to his questionable taste.
Bai Heming’s lips twitched, but he forced a smile. "President Tang, you really didn’t have to come all this way… It’s just a minor injury."
He tried to prop himself up, but with both arms fractured, the pain made him grimace.
"No, no, don’t move!" Tang Jinzhou hurried forward, gripping his hand—and then slowly increasing the pressure.
Bai Heming yelped in agony. "That hurts!"
Tang Jinzhou feigned shock. "Wait, you hit your head—how did your arms get injured too?"
Too proud to admit Fu Wenxi had done it, Bai Heming clenched his teeth. "I slipped in the shower…"
"Slipped? And landed on the back of your head? Then how did both arms break?" Tang Jinzhou widened his eyes in exaggerated disbelief. "President Bai, you must be a contortionist to pull off a fall like that."
It would take some seriously twisted acrobatics to end up in that state.
Beside them, Li Jingyu couldn’t hold back a laugh. Tang Jinzhou’s sarcasm was downright brutal.
