Chapter 905

"Sir, Mr. Beach still refuses to eat." The maid approached nervously while Pei Chuan and Linda were deep in conversation. Gu Yun hadn't touched his food. The door to his room was locked—both from the outside and bolted from within. Trapped inside, Gu Yun couldn’t escape, nor would he let anyone in. Pei Chuan frowned, irritation flickering across his face. "If he won’t eat, let him starve." Linda tilted her head, intrigued. "Who’s staying at your place?" Rubbing his temples, Pei Chuan sighed. "An idiot." That’s exactly what Gu Yun was in his eyes—a complete fool. "Color me curious… This is the first time I’ve seen you let someone stay under your roof." Linda blinked, then craned her neck toward the upper floor. Just who could warrant such an exception from Pei Chuan? "Oh my god! What’s he doing?" Linda gasped, eyes widening as she spotted a man clambering out of a second-floor window, poised to jump. Pei Chuan stiffened, then shot to his feet, his gaze snapping toward Gu Yun. "Gu Yun!" he barked, voice sharp with alarm. "Have you lost your mind? Do you want to ruin your other leg too?" Without another word, Pei Chuan bolted toward the room. He didn't even realize how flustered and out of control he was. Linda stood frozen in place, stunned for a long moment before whispering to the housekeeper beside her, "What's going on between Pei Chuan and that man?" The housekeeper hesitated. "I think Mr. Pei just doesn’t want Mr. Gu Yun to cause any trouble. Don’t overthink it, miss." Linda nodded silently, her gaze fixed on the man now standing on the windowsill. He was on the second floor—not too high—but his face was breathtaking. It had to be said, the Beach family genes were truly remarkable. Gu Yun bore a striking resemblance to Beckett, though not as rugged. Still, he was undeniably stunning at first glance. "He’s… really beautiful," Linda murmured under her breath. It was the kind of face even women might envy. Gu Yun glanced back once, hearing Pei Chuan kicking at the door, before leaping down from the ledge. The sharp pain nearly blinded him, but he gritted his teeth against the throbbing in his left leg, staggering to his feet from the bushes and limping away. As he passed Linda, his eyes briefly met hers—a complicated, unreadable look. Without a word, he quickened his pace and dashed off. Upstairs, Pei Chuan finally kicked the door open and rushed to the window, only to see Gu Yun jump and disappear into the distance. "Fine, just great. How admirable." Pei Chuan glared at Gu Yun, who was limping unsteadily, his breath trembling with barely suppressed fury. The man truly didn’t care about his own legs anymore. Might as well break them for good. "Sir, should we stop Mr. Gu?" the assistant asked nervously. Given Gu Yun’s state, they didn’t dare lay a hand on him. Pei Chuan didn’t answer. He turned and strode downstairs. Linda watched Gu Yun anxiously. "Your leg—are you okay?" Gu Yun ignored her, quickening his pace toward the exit. He had to get out. But he knew Pei Chuan wouldn’t let him escape. After a brief hesitation, Gu Yun turned to Linda. "Can I borrow your phone?" Confused, Linda nodded and handed it over. Before Pei Chuan could reach the bottom of the stairs, Gu Yun swiftly dialed Tang Jinzhou’s number. Tang Jinzhou rarely answered calls from unknown numbers, but this particular line was known to only a handful of people. Having been missing for days, Gu Yun knew Tang Jinzhou would suspect he was with Pei Chuan. "Tang Jinzhou, come get me. I’m at Pei Chuan’s place—Lakeside Villa," Gu Yun whispered urgently. Before he could finish his sentence, Pei Chuan strode forward and snatched the phone from his hand. Gu Yun glared at Pei Chuan, his face dark with anger, then turned to leave. But Pei Chuan, still seething, grabbed the back of Gu Yun’s neck from behind and yanked him back. Gu Yun’s eyes burned with fury. "Pei Chuan, don’t make me call the cops on you for unlawful restraint." Pei Chuan shot him an equally heated glare. "You asking for a broken leg? Fine, I’ll break both of them!" Gu Yun swayed slightly, pain making sweat bead on his forehead. Linda, confused and uneasy, shrank back. "Pei Chuan…" She had never seen him this furious—he looked downright murderous. "His leg… it’s bleeding," she murmured hesitantly. Pei Chuan glanced down. The fabric of Gu Yun’s pants was torn at the knee, revealing a wound that oozed blood, the crimson trail streaking down his pale calf. His expression darkened. Without thinking, Pei Chuan swept Gu Yun into his arms and carried him toward the living room. Gu Yun stiffened in shock before struggling angrily. "Have you lost your damn mind?" His girlfriend was right there—couldn’t he at least pretend to have boundaries? Linda didn’t overthink it, unaware of Gu Yun’s feelings for Pei Chuan. But seeing Pei Chuan so worked up over him… it left a bitter taste in her mouth. "Put me down!" Gu Yun felt Pei Chuan was trampling on his dignity. Pei Chuan tossed him onto the sofa and turned to his assistant. "Call the doctor." The assistant nodded hastily and rushed out to make the call. Linda stood to the side, staring at Pei Chuan in confusion. "Pei Chuan... are you two friends?" "No." "Absolutely not!" Gu Yun glared at Pei Chuan, their voices overlapping. Linda blinked, taken aback by the hostility between them. Were they enemies? But enemies wouldn’t show this much concern for each other. "Pei Chuan, are you hungry? Let me cook for you tonight. I want to stay with you." Linda wrapped her arms around Pei Chuan’s, a hint of deliberate provocation in her tone. Gu Yun sat rigidly on the sofa, his fingers slowly clenching. Pei Chuan glanced at Linda, about to refuse, but she cut him off. "I don’t care. I’m staying here. What kind of man makes his fiancée live in a hotel? You’re being ridiculous." In the end, Pei Chuan relented. "Fine. Stay. I’ll have Xiao Chen fetch your things from the hotel." Linda beamed, bouncing excitedly before skipping off to the kitchen. Gu Yun kept his head down, his lips pressed so tightly he drew blood. Maybe Pei Chuan wasn’t deliberately trying to provoke him. Maybe he simply didn’t care enough to consider his feelings at all. Perhaps Gu Yun was just being overly sensitive, reading too much into things again. "Who taught you to jump off buildings?" Pei Chuan frowned, his voice sharp with accusation as he glared at Gu Yun. Gu Yun kept his head lowered stubbornly, refusing to respond. Pei Chuan's expression softened slightly, his tone unexpectedly gentle, as if coaxing a misbehaving child. "Don't ever do something so reckless again. Stay away from Tang Jinzhou, don't get involved in his affairs, and I won't restrict your freedom anymore." Still, Gu Yun remained silent, ignoring him completely. Pei Chuan sighed inwardly—dealing with Gu Yun was more frustrating than handling the most temperamental woman. When the doctor arrived to treat Gu Yun's injuries, he issued a stern warning. "This leg has suffered severe trauma before. It absolutely cannot endure another injury." The previous comminuted fracture had left his leg fragile, and this new injury would cause excruciating pain. "Here are painkillers—take them if the pain becomes unbearable." The doctor prescribed medication, confirmed no major bone damage, dressed the wounds, and left. Gu Yun didn't touch the pills. The pain kept his mind clear, sharp. Not long after the doctor departed, Tang Jinzhou arrived. Stepping out of his car, he met Pei Chuan's gaze with deliberate provocation. "I'm here to pick up our dear Yunyun." Pei Chuan's eyes flashed a warning. "He's not going anywhere with you." "I am." Supporting himself on his injured leg, Gu Yun stood unsteadily and limped toward the door. He couldn't bear to stay another second in that place. Watching Pei Chuan and his fiancée being all lovey-dovey. Pei Chuan frowned, his eyes burning with anger and thinly veiled threat as he glared at Gu Yun. "You'd better think carefully." "I want nothing to do with someone like you," Gu Yun said firmly, striding step by step toward Tang Jinzhou. Tang Jinzhou glanced at Gu Yun’s legs but said nothing. Right in front of Pei Chuan, he scooped Gu Yun up into his arms without hesitation. Gu Yun felt like his dignity had been thoroughly trampled today. "Tang Jinzhou, have you lost your damn mind…" A grown man being carried like a princess—even as a gay man, he found it ridiculous. Tang Jinzhou, however, remained unfazed. "We're both guys, what’s the big deal?" Gu Yun sighed in resignation and simply covered his face with his hands. "Gu Yun! Are your legs broken?" Pei Chuan blocked Tang Jinzhou’s path, seething. "Put him down and let him walk. Men shouldn’t be so… handsy with each other." From the kitchen, Linda gaped at Pei Chuan in disbelief. Hadn’t he… just carried Gu Yun himself moments ago? So why was it suddenly unacceptable when someone else did it?
