Chapter 917

Bai Heming stormed into the bedroom with a dark expression, his eyes locking onto Fu Wenxi who sat on the edge of the bed. "What are you doing in here in broad daylight?" His suspicious gaze swept across the room before darting back to Bai Yu. "Where's Jingyu?" He had come back specifically for Li Jingyu and knew full well the man hadn't left. Bai Yu, slow on the uptake, opened her mouth to say Jingyu had gone out—but Fu Wenxi cut in first. "If Jingyu's anywhere, he'd be in Bai Yu's room. What's the point of looking for him here?" Bai Heming shot her a glare, jabbing a finger in her direction. "You and I aren't done." With that, he turned to march toward Bai Yu's room. "Brother, wait!" Bai Yu blocked his path, panic creeping into her voice. "Jingyu drank too much last night—he's still asleep. You know how he gets when someone wakes him. Maybe... maybe just leave him be for now?" Bai Heming's face darkened further. The issues with Li Corporation weren't going anywhere—they could wait. His attention snapped back to Fu Wenxi. He was in peak health now, strong enough to handle one measly pregnant woman. If he couldn't even control Fu Wenxi in her condition, what kind of man would that make him? "Go to your room," he ordered Bai Yu. "When Jingyu wakes up, tell him to wait for me in the living room." His tone carried an unspoken warning: *Stay out of whatever happens next.* Bai Yu shot a terrified glance at Fu Wenxi. She knew exactly how twisted her brother could be. That look on his face? It always meant violence. "Brother..." Her voice trembled. "Sis-in-law is pregnant. Maybe you should—" "**Get out!**" Bai Heming roared, the threat unmistakable. Frustrations from outside had festered long enough. If he couldn't vent them elsewhere, the women at home would bear the brunt. It wouldn't be the first time. Bai Yu trembled all over, clutching her clothes tightly in nervousness, refusing to leave. Wenxi was pregnant—it was dangerous. Even if Bai Heming lashed out, she couldn’t just walk away. "What’s this? Now you’re disobeying me?" Bai Heming’s voice was dangerously low. Seeing Bai Yu’s face turn deathly pale, Fu Wenxi spoke gently. "Bai Yu, go back first. It’s fine. I just need to talk to your brother about something." Bai Yu’s whole body shook, her eyes red as she stared at Fu Wenxi, silently pleading for her to be careful. Bai Heming was clearly in one of his moods—angry about something outside and itching to take it out on a woman. "It’s okay. Go get some rest." Fu Wenxi could see Bai Yu’s fear and knew all too well the abuse she had suffered at Bai Heming’s hands before. "No matter what you hear later, don’t interfere. Understood?" Bai Heming ordered the housemaid in the living room, his voice dark. The maid nodded nervously. "Yes, sir." "Don’t be afraid, no matter what. And don’t come in." Fu Wenxi added calmly, pressing a finger to her lips in a silent warning to Bai Yu. But Bai Yu was terrified. Wenxi was pregnant—what if something happened? Fu Wenxi closed the bedroom door behind her and sat on the edge of the bed. She wasn’t afraid. Not at all. Li Jingyu was still hiding in the closet, after all. And even if he weren’t, she could beat Bai Heming senseless without breaking a sweat. "Don’t you see I’m back? Is this how a wife should act? Get up!" Bai Heming started picking a fight. He had half a mind to make her massage his feet, but remembering last time, he thought better of it. Inside the closet, Li Jingyu cracked his knuckles. Would it be too much to just kill this guy? Fu Wenxi remained seated, unmoving. Bai Heming let out a deranged laugh, his face twisted into that infuriatingly smug expression as he began unbuckling his belt. This was clearly a man accustomed to ruling his household with an iron fist. Fu Wenxi watched him coldly. Was he really about to use that belt on her? So this was Bai Heming's true colors after all. "Fu Wenxi," he snarled, raising the belt threateningly, "I work my ass off while you live off me, even carrying some bastard's child in your belly. And this is the attitude you give me?" Inside the wardrobe, Li Jingyu instinctively tensed to burst out. But he was a second too late—Bai Heming's pained shriek already pierced the air. In one fluid motion, Fu Wenxi had caught the descending belt mid-air while simultaneously emptying an entire can of pepper spray directly into Bai Heming's eyes. "Ah—!" The sharp crack of her palm meeting his cheek punctuated his scream. Were it not for her pregnancy limiting her movements, she'd have beaten this scum to a pulp. Bai Heming collapsed to the floor, writhing in agony as he clutched at his blinded eyes. Li Jingyu emerged from the wardrobe, gaping at the grotesque spectacle of Bai Heming squirming like a wounded insect. Fu Wenxi shot him a warning glance to stay silent before delivering a vicious kick between Bai Heming's legs. "Darling," she said sweetly, cocking her head as she tapped her ear, "could you repeat that? Your screaming is drowning out your words." Bai Heming trembled as he curled his legs into himself. "Fu Wenxi, I'll kill you." "You'd kill a pregnant woman? Then fighting back would just be self-defense," Fu Wenxi whispered into his ear before straightening up and smashing everything in sight. Outside the door, Bai Yu was likely recording everything on his phone, eager to gather evidence to report Bai Heming for domestic violence. The violent crashing and shattering sent everyone outside fleeing in fear, too terrified to intervene. Fu Wenxi pointed at Li Jingyu and made a sharp "get lost" gesture. The poor man looked like he was about to jump out of his skin—his wife was terrifying… and he loved it. Before leaving, he made sure to deliver a solid kick to Bai Heming, then bolted out the door in a flash. "Fu Wenxi, you venomous witch! My eyes—call an ambulance! I'll kill you, I swear I'll kill you… waaah—" His threats were cut short as Fu Wenxi sprayed another burst of pepper spray straight into his mouth. That fiery concoction did the trick—Bai Heming finally fell silent, reduced to pitiful sobbing. Fu Wenxi sat regally on the bed, watching as Bai Heming writhed and crawled on the floor like a wounded insect. Outside, right on cue, Li Jingyu began his performance, pretending to have just woken up. "What's all this racket? Can't a man get some sleep?" He kicked the door. "Open up! What the hell's going on in there?" Hearing voices, Bai Heming let out desperate, muffled cries. As if Li Jingyu was here to save him. Fu Wenxi flung the door open and burst into tears. "He tried to kill me—it's domestic violence! Call the police, quick!" Bai Yu stared blankly at Bai Heming, whose eyes were swollen like walnuts. "I... I'll call the police right now." She was utterly convinced this time—completely and thoroughly. Bai Heming lay sprawled on the floor in utter disarray, his belt discarded beside him, his pants barely clinging to his waist. His eyes were puffed up grotesquely, his throat so swollen he could barely speak—a picture of pure misery. "I recorded it... the whole thing," Bai Yu chimed in, her voice trembling. "It was terrifying. My brother... how could he even think about murder?" "I'm pregnant, and he tried to kill me," Fu Wenxi sobbed between ragged breaths. "I had to use pepper spray." Standing nearby, Li Jingyu was stunned. His wife... definitely had a few tricks up her sleeve. The police arrived swiftly. The moment they heard it was a domestic dispute—Bai Heming assaulting his family—they hauled him away without hesitation, intent on teaching him a lesson. Bai Heming could barely pry his eyes open a sliver, and his mangled voice made his protests incoherent. With Bai Yu's damning recording as irrefutable evidence, the police booked him without delay—locking him up for a full 24 hours.
