Chapter 16
After taking the documents from Louis, Timothy suddenly felt a wave of hesitation, like someone nervous about returning home after a long time.
He stood there for a moment, torn between fear and longing. But in the end, the desire to find me won out. He yanked the folder open and started flipping through the pages.
That was when it hit him. He found his own signature on the divorce papers. Staring at his bold, sweeping signature, his eyes turned teary. He couldn't even remember when he had signed it. By the time he reached the last page, he couldn't hold it together anymore.
With trembling hands, he picked up the final document, a cancer diagnosis report. The patient's name on it was mine.
Suddenly, he remembered that day at the hospital. I had handed him a report. But he had been so angry and hadn't even looked at it before tearing it to shreds. If only he'd looked, he would've known about my illness much earlier.
