Chapter 7
By dawn, I had packed everything and headed downstairs, only to see Timothy gently feeding Eva a bowl of soup.
Before I could say a word, he noticed me and stood up in a panic. He quickly set the bowl down and looked at me awkwardly as he tried to explain, "Eva didn't have much of an appetite this morning, so I made her some soup to help her feel better."
I nodded calmly and reached for my suitcase, ready to leave.
He finally noticed the luggage in my hand, and his expression darkened instantly. "What are you doing? It's just a bowl of soup for Eva. Are you really going to make a big deal out of it?"
With a flash of anger, he snatched the suitcase out of my hand.
I looked at the red marks all over his neck and felt nothing but pure disgust. "Just a bowl of soup, huh? Why don't you go take a look at your neck?"
I let out a bitter laugh, unable to hold back the sarcasm.
